mrs. mill is an artist, maker, designer, doer – living and creating on the edge of the west yorkshire moors, in a small village which features one small yet incredibly essential shop, a gallizillion horses and ‘ladies who ride’.
mrs. mill is deliciously in love with the country air, moving paint on canvas & arranging objects d’art around. her studio is incredibly small yet wonderfully tall bible study room in an 18th century Baptist chapel.
if you’ve time for a brew, here is the life story…
mrs. mill was born a Hutt (derived from the German for Hat) in Essex (UK), a stones throw from Tiptree Jam Factory, (who now make a very fine brown sauce).
it was 1972 and real nappies were boiled clean in a cauldron on the fire of a sweet cottage in a village nestled in the hot crotch of essex.
via Brixton to a squat in a terrace of squats, complete with a gang of snotty squat kids.
the chime of a big gong announced dinner time, perhaps it will be rissoles, hand made plait apple bread, brown rice with lashings of tahini n’ soy sauce eaten skilfully with chop sticks. it was the era of macramé….
mrs. mill liked miniature tea parties, aprons, daydreaming and numbers. she counted lots, then counted ever higher. once counting the same count for days. writing down the high, having food or sleep then reuniting with the count teasing ever higher. she stopped when the concept of infinity was thus discovered.
aRt education includes expulsion from an art and film degree in york, an HND in community arts, plus stretches in the local community college where i discovered a love for ceramics.
years roll by, a daughter, a husband – a move to the wild environs of rural yorkshire.
mrs. mill paints or draws or makes something most days. also a part-time BSc student in design and innovation. very much someone who revels in working full-pelt towards worthwhile & creative goals.
